	PAST MASTERS Vol.1
	各国でばらばらに発売されていたビートルズのアルバムは100種類以上に上っていたと思われます。それを1987年のCD化に伴い、英国発売のオリジナル・アルバムに統一（米国編集の「Magical Mystery Tour」のみ追加）されたが、その13枚のアルバムに収録されなかったシングル曲等を年代別に2枚のアルバムに収めた。このVol.1は'65年までの前期が中心で、オリジナル14曲にカバー曲が4曲。また「抱きしめたい」「シー・ラブズ・ユー」のドイツ語バージョン8.9もある。

	PAST MASTERS Vol.2
	このVol.2は'65年暮れ発売の1,2から'70年発売の14,15まで中期～後期のシングル曲を収録。 13は70年発表のアルバム「Let It Be」に収録されていたものと同じテイクだが、編集はまったく違う。元々'68年2月にレコーディングされたがうまくいかず、放っておかれたものをフィル･スペクターがオーケストラ等を巧みに入れて完成させたもので、本作に収録されたものは別名”バード･バージョン”と呼ばれ'69年12月に発表されたチャリティ・アルバム「No One's Gonna Change The World」に提供されたもの。

	'62年～'65年まで計52回出演したBBCラジオ出演時の演奏（全90曲、270テイク以上）の中からジョージ・マーティンが選曲/プロデュースしたもので、未発表曲31曲を含む計56曲を収録した。そして、’73年の赤盤・青盤以来21年振りにAppleから発売されたアルバムでもある。

	ビートルズ解散後から温められていた企画が25年を経てようやく日の目を見た。オリジナル・アルバムが表街道なれこのアンソロジー・シリーズは裏街道で、デビュー前のハンブルグ巡業やデッカのオーディションなどでのライブ音源やBBC他のラジオ番組での演奏、各曲の公式リリース前の初期テイクなど興味深いものばかりであす。そして最大の目玉は、'77年にジョンが自宅で録音したデモ・テイクのポール・ジョージ・リンゴが音を重ねて作った”ビートルズの新曲”A Side1の「Free As A Bird”である。
